Running Strong with Nickie

Nickie Taylor (48), the wife of Dr. Mark Taylor and the mother of their 3 children has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of AML leukemia. On Thursday April 13th, Nickie was immediately transported from Flowers Hospital to UAB as she was in what they call a "blast crisis". A bone marrow biopsy was performed to determine the type and subtype of leukemia. Three days later she began a full week of chemotherapy. 

Their first goal is to get the cancer into remission. Once remission has been achieved then they will begin a search for a stem cell match. Provided a match is found a transplant will be performed! 

The stem cell transplant process will require her to be in the hospital for at least another 100 days afterwards to monitor and assure her body's acceptance of the transplant.
